Creative pathways have their own special challenges; challenges with mental health are more prevalent in the performing arts than other industries, and suicide rates are well above the national average. If you are in these industries and struggling, you are not alone.
After 16 years as a professional performer and writer, I know the challenges of these industries well. I help clients with performance anxiety, employment anxiety, questions around identity, self-esteem, purpose, and creative blocks. I also have specialist training in working with substance abuse and addiction, which can be particularly prevalent in some creative walks of life.
My research has always focussed on the creative professions; at Masters level I studied the effects of acting professionally on self esteem and body esteem, and during my doctorate I have been researching the impact of creative careers on the choice to have - or not have - children.
Fundamentally, if you are pursuing a career in the arts and find yourself struggling, I may have some notion of what that’s like.
I offer sliding scale fees for those who are currently seeking work, so please feel free to talk to me about that.
